Breakin’ n Enterin’ – old school bboy movie

Dec 14, 2009

Egyptian Lover cuts and scratches on the decks while Chris “The Glove” Taylor
explains what is going on, with Ice T rapping!

In our previous post on Arabian Prince – It Ain’t Tough we mentioned a classic breakdance video documentary called Breakin’ ‘n’ Enterin’. Filmed in 1983 by director Topper Carew with bboy Shabba Doo, it has achieved underground cult status as a classic piece of West Coast history.

Featuring star appearances from West Coast hip hop pioneers Egyptian Lover, Ice T, Chris “The Glove” Taylor and Dupont as well as a massive cast of bboys including Shabba Doo, Boogaloo Shrimp, Mr. Smooth, Poppin’ Taco, and Heckle & Jeckle, just to name a couple.

Apart from all the classic old school b boys in action, my personal favourite is as seen in the Youtube clip above – Chris “The Glove” Taylor talking about DJing while Egyptian Lover cuts and scratches on the decks with pure finesse – followed by Ice T rapping live. These are the originals — straight old school baby!

Since you basically have no chance in hell of finding a copy of the VHS – shit is rare, Cold Crush has tracked it down for you! The quality is, well, VHS, so don’t be expecting some high definition plasma TV quality – this is some pure old school grainy film shit with washed out colours. Which is all part of the fun!

Awesome man, thanks for sharing. This is the first doc on the cali breakin’ scene that I’ve ever seen…the only exposure I saw on it back then (’83) was the articles in Eye On L.A. and the news. Everyone always hyped up the NY scene, for obvious reasons, but Cali’s got our own flavor. S’about time we had a taste. Priceless footage.

    Yo Brandon,

The link is at the bottom of the page — or just click here.

Don’t think you’ll have much chance of tracking down a VHS to buy, you could try scouring ebay but it’s rare son!

Is it just me or does the sound not match the film ? Seems late or too early almost like a Kung-fu flick.

I downloaded it but kind of irritated me cause they talk and then you hear them like 5 seconds later. :(
